Radical Dependence

So I’ve been thinking that underlying most of our prayers is a desire to be independent of God, but God’s desire for our lives is one of radical dependence on Him.

It’s true, right?  We pray for problem-free marriages, for God to take away that temptation, for a great paying stress-less job, for our kids to behave, for good health.  And if God were to grant us all those requests?  Well, then we wouldn’t really need God.  I can make it through my day just fine without God if everything’s perfect.  It’s all the crap of life that drives me to my knees and makes me look up.

I wonder sometimes when we’re praying if God is like, “Do you even understand what you’re asking?”
