Desert Flowers

Occasionally it rains in the dessert and, when it does, flowers will often pop up. The flowers are all excited about the new home they’ve discovered, but then it doesn’t rain again for three months. The flowers realize they were deceived. And the flowers don’t have deep enough roots to continue growing, so they shrivel up and die. 

I wonder what the desert flowers have to teach us about life in Las Vegas in the middle of the dessert? And if you live here in Vegas, what can you do to give yourself deep roots so you don’t shrivel up and die here?
