Speak To, Speak For

Got to hear Erwin McManus speak a few times at the M Conference last week. One of the interesting things he talked about was the difference between speaking to people and speaking for people. The problem, he said, with a lot of pastors is that they’re trying to “reach” people they want to speak to, but have no interest in speaking for.

He said throughout history, the most powerful voices came from those who were speaking for people, not to people. And that we may never speak more for God then when we identify with and have compassion for a group of people and speak for them.

Makes sense to me.  What about you?
