#9: Jesus: One-on-One

After 10 years of Forefront we’ve now done over 120 message series. Thought it might be fun and interesting to share with you my top twenty.

This is a series we’ve done several times and need to do again sometime soon. I love reading about the encounters Jesus had with different people in the Bible. And I love to see how meeting Jesus changed people’s lives. Yes, a few people rejected Jesus, but even rejecting Jesus changes your life. More people chose to follow, and wow, that has a dramatic impact on a person!

The thing I hate is that it seems like a lot of people today meet Jesus, yet are not changed by the encounter. To be honest, I don’t get that. I don’t know if it’s that they didn’t really meet Jesus, or if somehow they kind of ignored Him, or what, but it’s just plain weird.

In this series we look at encounters Jesus had with people in the Bible, and how it changed them, and then we compare our experience to theirs’. Why aren’t we healed, like the woman who had been bleeding non-stop? Why aren’t we running off to tell everyone about Jesus, like the woman at the well? Why aren’t we getting in trouble with religious people, like the paralytic at the pool of Bethsaida? Why aren’t we begging Jesus to follow Him, like Legion?

One of the fun things we’ve done with this series are the names of the messages. Like, “Jesus: One-on-One with the Town Hussy,” and “Jesus: One-on-One with a Naked, Bloody, Superfreak.”

We’ve done a lot of our Forefront Interpretive Theaters with this series, which is one of the wilder and more creative things we’ve done. They’re part skit, part improve, part planned, and a lot of chaos. You’ve got to see one to understand…
