But Who Will…? (Mark 16)
So in today’s reading some women go to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. On the way they have a big concern: Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb? (Mk 16:2-3) And their concern is understandable, but from our standpoint we’re like, “Oh, silly girls, you’re about to find out that God rolled away the stone. Don’t you remember what Jesus said about not worrying because God is in charge? Trix is for kids.”
And I wonder in our lives, and especially in my life right now – trying to start a new church on the Vegas Strip – how many times we have what seem to be understandable concerns, “How will anyone ever even know our church exists?” “What are we going to do if we don’t raise more money?” “How will we get enough people on our Launch Team to actually launch the church?” “Will anyone show up the first Sunday?”
And the truth is: God rolls away the stones. And it seems like a trite Christian cliche, but we don’t need to worry because God is in charge. And Trix is for kids.
