Memories (Psalm 39 & 40)
I had several new insights doing today’s reading (Psalm 39 and 40), but my favorite moment came when I began reading Psalm 40. I read, “I waited patiently for…” and then my mind took off and recited the rest of verse one, and all of verses two through four without me reading them.
How was I able to do that?
When I first became a Christian I felt like I was WAY behind since I knew nothing, had a dangerous lack of Bible knowledge, and therefore wouldn’t be very equipped to make right choices. So I wrote down dozens of short Bible passages on 3 x 5 cards and every morning I would grab one or two of them and put them in my pocket. The rest of the day, every chance I got, I would take one out and read it a couple times. Psalm 40:1-4 was on one of those cards. That was 18 years ago, but I still have those verses inside of me, available to me.
Those 3 x 5 cards were one of the best things I’ve ever done. I shouldn’t have stopped. And maybe it would be a good new habit for you to pick up…
