After All, We’re Only Human
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that … “After all, we’re only human.” So “don’t expect too much.” So “of course we’re gonna sin.” The problem is that most of the time it’s Christians saying it, and I want to respond, “Exactly what Bible have you been reading? Definitely not the same one I have.”
Because the truth, and the good news, is that we’re not just human. I love how, in today’s reading (1 Corinthians 3) Paul (the author) writes can’t believe that the Christians in Corinth are acting like “mere men.” We’re not. We are God’s temple, and God’s Spirit lives in us. We are of Christ, and Christ is of God. And what that means is, “After all, we’re only supernatural.”
So … we can do all things in and through Christ. There’s no need to lower the standards. There’s no reason to make excuses. Because really, after all, we’re only filled with divinity.
