Can’t Wait (Ro 15)

Before I write this, let me just assure you I really don’t think that highly of myself. If I wasn’t here starting this church in Vegas, God would have someone else do it – and probably someone better. And even though our church will be closer to the Strip, we know that there are great churches in the suburbs of Vegas who are reaching people we only hope to reach.

That being said, today’s reading (Romans 15) gets me pumped. It contains one of my favorite verses. In fact, if I was to choose a “life verse” this would be one of the finalists: Romans 15:20, “It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.” That’s why I’m excited to be in a city where only 9% of the people go to church (meaning 1.8 million do not!) and to start a church on (or as close as possible to) the Strip, where so little ministry is happening.

Earlier in the chapter it talks about the Gentiles (people at the time who were considered godless) coming to, and rejoicing with, and finding hope in, and praising God. What I’m looking forward to is when topless showgirls, and bouncers, and bartenders, and pimps, and prostitutes, and casino executives, and blackjack dealers, and drug dealers, and Chippendale dancers, and strippers are coming to, and rejoicing with, and finding hope in, and praising God. I can’t wait!!
