Don’t Give Up

A couple weeks ago one of my favorite people, and one of the most whole hearted supporters of Verve, e-mailed me a Bible verse. It happened to be from today’s reading (1 Corinthians 15) –

She acted kind of embarrassed to send it, and like I probably didn’t need it – but I did. We all do. That’s why it’s in the Bible. And why I love this chapter. Paul’s like: “Listen, you need to remember, stay focused on, and cling to the gospel. Because it means everything, and it’s true! That’s why what we do matters, why I work hard, why we’re willing to put up with anything, why I fought wild beasts.” (Huh?)

It’s because this life is not all there it is. It’s just prelude. And so we don’t live for this life, we live for the next. And we know that it will be worth it, and that we’ll be rewarded for our work in this life.

When you feel like giving up – on your faith, your ministry – remember: The gospel means everything, and it’s true, and even when it seems meaningless now, your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
