Not Church As Normal
I’m gonna do a series this week “announcing” some of the decisions we’ve made on what Verve is going to look like, outside of our worship services and youth/children’s ministries. How will we connect and grow people and serve our community together?
We’re trying to come up with a “model” for church and for growing people that fits who we are and the people we’re trying to reach (those who live around and work on the Las Vegas Strip). There are some unique factors with each.
Who We Are:
1. We want to reach the “lostest of the lost” – almost being a niche church that reaches the people other churches can’t.
2. Because we are a new church, we will likely have a lack of leaders
3. We have a disdain for self-indulgent Christianity.
4. We want to have a laser focus on loving God, loving people, and turning the world upside down.
5. We want to really be in and serving our community to establish credibility and so we can be the gospel before we share the gospel.
Our context:
1. A 24/7 culture with bizarre work shifts.
2. Ridiculously busy people, many of whom have more than one job.
3. Lots of single parents.
4. Extremely transitory
5. Rampant addictions
6. A fear in people of relationships and commitment
7. Bible illiteracy
So what kind of model for church fits that? Well, it probably won’t be church as normal.
More coming soon…
