Joy Thru Praise

Every two weeks I fill out a “spiritual report” for a guy who is mentoring me. Two of the questions on the report ask me what spiritual discipline I’m focusing on developing this month, and what character trait I’m focusing on developing this month.

Right now the two are totally connected for me. I want to develop the character trait of joy, and I’m seeking to do it through practicing the spiritual discipline of praise. I am starting my prayer time, every morning, with praise – not with requests or complaints or fears. I basically write a psalm of praise to God, and they tend to look kind of like today’s reading (Psalm 92 & 93).

I think starting my day like that will help me to center my life on the reason for joy: That God reigns, that He loves and is faithful to us, that His works are great, and that He will be exalted forever.
