What Really Matters
Today’s reading (Matthew 24) starts with Jesus’ disciples pointing out to Him the great buildings that people have made for God. And Jesus is basically like, “Yeahhhh, those buildings are gonna be piles of rubble, and I don’t mean Barney and Wilma.”
Then Jesus turns the discussion to what He thinks is important. And He says, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
It’s like, “I don’t care about buildings, I care about hearts. So what really matters is: How passionate is your love for God and people? Is it hot or cold? And is the gospel being preached to the whole world? Are you making sure everyone knows about me?“
The question for me (and you) — Is what’s important to Jesus what’s important to me?
