Why I’m In Error

Two things from today’s reading (Matthew 22) —

First, for the crowd who love “Vince is stupid” stories: When I read verse 35 this morning (“One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question”) I read it wrong and initially thought it said, “… TEXTED him with this question” and I was like, “What the crap?!” Like, “How have I never noticed that before? Those guys were WAY ahead of their time! Or this translation is taking some liberties it shouldn’t be taking…”

Second, for the crowd who want to grow spiritually: When I read verse 29 this morning (“Jesus replied, ‘You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.'”) I read it right and thought, “I wonder how many of my problems are the result of me not really knowing the Scriptures or fully believing in the power of God?” I’m going to venture a guess: All of them. And I guess if I were you I’d wonder the same thing, and I’d probably come to the same answer. And maybe there’s something we should do about it…
