All Mixed Up
If you’re old enough, do you remember the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercials? (If you’ve never seen one, I put an example for you to see below.) (You’re welcome.) Where one person would be walking eating a chocolate bar, and another eating from a jar of peanut butter (BTW: Who in the world has EVER walked down a street eating peanut butter straight out of the jar?!) and they would bump into each other, and the first would say, “You got peanut butter in my chocolate!” And the other would reply, “You got chocolate in my peanut butter!” Then they’d each try it and realize the two tasty treats were better when they were mixed up.
I think that’s God’s goal for our lives, that we get all mixed up, and I think we see that in today’s reading (John 14). Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit. Then He says that He is in His Father. Then He says that we are in Him. Then He says that He is in us. Later He says that the Holy Spirit is in us. Try to create a ven diagram for all that!
People say God wants a relationship with us, but the truth is that He wants way more than that. He wants us all mixed up.
