What Is Broken

Isn’t it interesting that so many Christians focus on grace (which is awesome) to the extent that they aren’t concerned about sinning (which is not awesome), but in today’s reading (1 John 2) John says his entire purpose for writing was so that people “would not sin.”

I think the issue is that we look at sin as law breaking, and we’re not that worried about breaking the law. But it’s not just breaking the law, the problem with sin is that it breaks God’s heart. And when we sin, we get broken, our relationships get broken, lots of stuff gets broken.

And when you look at it that way, you’d write a letter (or a book of the Bible) to keep people from sinning…
