Conviction

Wow, so much in today’s reading (Revelation 2). I felt convicted by the letter to the church in Ephesus. I’m afraid that maybe Jesus would say that to me: I know your deeds, hard work, and perseverance. (Big proud smile on my face.) Yet your love for me isn’t what it used to be. (Big sad frown on my face.)

So interesting to me that the solution Jesus gives is to “do the things you did at first.” Not to “feel the way you used to feel.” I think it’s because our feelings generally follow our actions (not the other way around). So the “trick” of loving Jesus more is figuring out what are the things I do that make me feel it, and then do those things (rather than just trying to generate a feeling.)

Which of the letters in this chapter convict you, and why?
