The Week In Brief(s) (12/20/09)

Every Sunday I’m sharing a recap on some of what happened that week. It will be quick (in brief) and I’ll write in my underwear (in briefs). Here ya go:

1. Launch Team meeting was great. Robb taught about needing to feed not on things that spoil, but last for eternal life. Jesus has to be IT for us. We call that being a God Stalker.

2. Two new people at our meeting. We continue to grow slowly but steadily.

3. Craziness continues to abound with the warehouse space. It’s endless. Now we’re in all kinds of discussions about whether (and to what degree) we have to soundproof the roof, and how many bathrooms we need to have. It still looks good that everything will work out, but dang.

4. Announced that we’re searching for a Creative Arts/Worship Pastor, who we may never be able to hire, but maybe. You can read about it here.

5. Great post: http://tonymorganlive.com/2009/12/15/what-if-target-operated-like-a-church/. I especially like what he’s saying about having unique names and logos for ministries in the church.

6. This week our new staff member officially started! Holly Skarpac will be leading our Children’s and Youth Ministries (there’s probably one word that includes both, “Family Ministries” or “Not Adult Ministries”?). God really took care of us when He gave us Holly. She’s young, but already has an amazing story and incredible leadership and ministry experience and we are very excited to have her join us.

7. We’ve had a couple of meetings, but I guess this week we had our first “official” Staff Meeting. It’s weird when you throw three people together who are a new group and are all like, “Okay, you’re a staff now, go to work.” But all signs are that we’re going to work great together. We’ve already had several times where we took an idea and together made it better and better, perhaps approaching near legendary status. So we can think well together. Now, the mystery, can we get anything done?

8. We also have already found we can laugh together. We were in hysterics this week, disturbing people sitting around us at Panera.

9. We have developed an idea, which I will tell you about in January, and that is VERY different in a couple ways, potentially brilliant (and if it is, I hope other church plants will steal it) or maybe colossally stupid. We’ll see… (But I’m pretty sure it’s brilliant.)

10. This week Chuck and Juli Cason moved to Las Vegas to be a part of Verve. Before adopting twins from Haiti, Juli was my assistant at Forefront. Chuck was a killer volunteer, and then we hired him to be our Campus Pastor for our Chesapeake location. Chuck is currently raising money to be on staff with us at Verve, which he also hopes will prepare him to start a new church in a couple years. If you want to do something amazing with some of the extra money God has given you, supporting Chuck would be an awesome idea.

11. I’m preaching at Central Christian Church, nearby in Henderson, this weekend. I am writing this whole post before I speak there, so I can’t tell you how it went yet, but I’m psyched for the opportunity.

TO PRAY ABOUT THIS WEEK:

1. We need things to keep moving forward (quickly) with getting all of our approvals and permits for the building, and with the construction – despite the holidays!! Please pray this happens.

2. Please pray that God provides so we can add a Creative Arts/Worship pastor to our staff in the not-too-distant future.

3. It’s only about two months till we start trying to create buzz and let people really know about us, and then our Grand Opening. Pray that God opens people’s hearts…
