Only Impossible If…

Took my kids to see The Pirates! Band of Misfits. Towards the end of the movie the main character, The Pirate Captain decides he is going to single-handedly take on Queen Victoria and her forces by attacking her ship. Charles Darwin (yes, Charles Darwin) tells him he can’t do it, that it’s impossible odds. The Pirate Captain quickly responds, “It’s only impossible if you stop to think about it.” Later he admits that what he did was idiotic. His friend says, “Terrifically idiotic.”

Love it! And it’s one of the things I love about God. All through the Bible we see people trying to do the impossible, and having the guts to do it because their faith led them to simply obey God without stopping to think about it. And what they did was idiotic, but terrifically idiotic.

That’s what I want to be too. That’s why I moved across the country to start a church in the heart of Sin City. It’s why I want to be a part of launching a movement of people who start churches in the most sinful places in the world.

And that’s who I want to hang around. That’s why I love my friend Tommy who is giving his life to serving tattoo artists, so they might see the love of God in Him. And my friend David, and who moved across the world to live in a Third World country to help people there. And my friend Matt who is starting a church in the hometown he left and swore he’d never go back to. And my friend Toby who moved to a communist country in Asia to make sure people there here about Jesus.

What about you? Are you up for the impossible? It’s not … if you don’t stop to think about it.

What terrifically idiotic thing is God calling you to?

So true! Moved to Miami 8 months ago to start a church for people who don’t like church out of.the culture of this city and an outreach to the homeless. It was very idiotic! Just have to keep doing it because if we stop to long to think about it we would probably realize how idiotic it is!
