If Jesus Did It…
In the last issue of Outreach Magazine, one of my favorite friends in ministry, Dave Furguson, interviewed one of favorite thinkers in ministry, Alan Hirsh. Hirsh had a few quotes that may help some understand why we’re doing things the way we’re doing in Vegas…
Hirsh said: “By coming into our world, adopting the culture and living incognito 30 years in the neighborhood, Jesus did get to proclamation, but it happened from within a community as a humble servant. I believe these things must inform how we do church.”
This is a great point: If we examine the life of Jesus, down to the methodology of His ministry, we can’t ignore the fact that Jesus lived “in the neighborhood” for 30 years before He proclaimed who He was and began sharing the gospel.
Our plan is to live in Vegas for a full year before we begin having services every Sunday. Why? Part of it is that we think following Jesus, down to the methodology of His ministry, is always a good idea.
